Central Davidson girls get knocked out of playoffs by West Stanly.
Posted on May 19, 2012 at 1:36 AM by Roger Doyle
Central Davidson High School

(Story and stats submitted by Jim Welborn)

State Playoffs, round 3

A classic example of what makes this sport so hard to understand at times. In seven innings, Carley Tysinger threw 59 strikes, 16 balls (just 75 total) , got 12 strike outs, and walked only 1.  Thats a dominating performance.  But West Stanly manage to do all their damage in the third inning taking advantage of a hit, an error, a walk, and a double that was just inches beyond being caught by McKenzie Burkhart in right field, quickly scoring what turned out to be their three game winning runs.

West Stanly pitcher Sarah Little, while not apparantly dominating, managed to hit her spots and put just enough spin on the ball to induce fly balls and pop ups all night long.  A total of 14 of CD's 21 outs were on caught line drives, pop ups, or fly balls.  That, combined with a momentum changing failed CD squeeze attempt in the 5th, was all it took for Central's outstanding season to come to an end.

West Stanly advances to face West Stokes in round 4 on Tuesday.

Carley Tysinger will pitch at Catawba next year.

West Davidson gets season ending loss to Cuthberson in 3rd round of playoffs.
Posted on May 18, 2012 at 11:27 PM by Roger Doyle
West Davidson High School

West Davidson's amazing season has come to a close. Winning the conference regular championship and the conference tournament championship, the Green Dragons had momentum coming into the playoffs. That momemtum ran out tonight against a very tough 20-3 Cuthberson Cavaliers team.

The first two innings were scoreless then the Cavaliers took a lead on a two run homer by Cavalier, Austin Pierce and they never looked back. The Cavaliers definitely had the bats working, hitting a total of five home runs in the game. West was able to put a couple on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning including a home run by Dragon Zack Queen but it was far from enough. Cavaliers win 13-2.

Spartans start shaky, finish strong
Posted on May 16, 2012 at 3:49 PM by Samantha Waisner
Central Davidson High School

Central has a tendency to start a game very shaky. They usually have one inning where they just can't get it together on offense or defense. That was just the case against Randleman last night. Randleman jumped out to a early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Many errors plagued the Spartans during the first couple innings. Central had a chance to tie the game twice while at bat in the bottom of the first, they loaded the bases twice before the a wild pitch hit a Spartan to score one...Read More

East took the week to prepare for the first round of the states. That preparation was exactly what they needed. East was paired up with Draughn which is a very long 2 and half hour drive on a activity bus. The drive didn't seem to bother the Eagles as they jumped to an early 4-1 lead. East would hold Draughn to just 3 runs while they tacked on 8. Winning on the mound for the Eagles was Avery Boles who is now 8-1. Leading hitters for East were Tyler Stroup 2 for 4 with an RBI and Hayden Steelman 1 for 2, 2B, 2 RBI.

East will take on West Lincoln at West Lincoln on Tuesday at 7:00 pm

West gets shut out by Peidmont
Posted on May 11, 2012 at 10:21 AM by Samantha Waisner
West Davidson High School

Emily Hutcherson had an amazing night for West Davidson in the goal. Hutcherson stopped everything that came within her grasp. Unfortanately, Peidmont snuck by one shot on her to get the only goal of the night. Most of the game was played on the West Davidson goal side but the Dragons played hard. They have nothing to be ashamed of this season and they look forward to improving and being on top again next season.

No one could have predicted the outcome of tonight’s game between Central Davidson and East Davidson. 2012 CCC Tournament Champions

The CCC Tournament #3 seed Salisbury faced the #1 seed West Davidson in the Conference tournament championship game tonight at Finch Field in Thomasville.

Loading the bases with no outs on a single and two walks, the Dragons seemed poised to take an early lead. Hornets starter Scott Freidrich was having a tough time keeping the ball down in the strike zone. Then a strike out and two shallow fly balls saved the struggling right hander and the Hornets exited the first unscathed. Neither team was able to put anything together in the second but the Dragons were able to get on the board in the third on a triple by Tyler Redd after a Tyler Hudson walk to go up 1-0......
